Using and sharing data in Pl@ntNet
Every Pl@ntNet user with an account can access their data:
-
On the mobile version, in the Profile section of the mobile app, once the user is authenticated.
-
On the Web version, from the My data menu and the Export button, it is possible to download all of one’s observations in order to perform analyses with other tools or to share them with collaborators.
Data shared in Pl@ntNet are used to:
-
Improve the platform’s services: Shared observations help perfect identification algorithms, enrich the app’s database as well as the content of species fact sheets. They also contribute to powering GeoPl@ntNet services.
-
Contribute to research projects within Pl@ntNet: Data are used in studies on ecology, biodiversity, and citizen science.
-
Contribute to research projects worldwide through data sharing via GBIF.
Pl@ntNet does not share its users’ personal data with third parties. Information shared publicly includes images, identifications, and plant locations if they have been made public. However, for rare or endangered species, you have the option to keep geolocation fields and personal notes confidential.
To access Pl@ntNet data for research purposes, you must submit a formal request via the contact form on the Pl@ntNet website. In this request, please specify the details of your research project, as well as the intended use of the data. The Pl@ntNet team will evaluate your request and provide the necessary information under the best conditions for collaboration.
